Qui rerum naturam amat deum amat

I went on an excursion in the north lagoon today. We (about twenty of us) departed from a dock below a bridge in the middle of nowhere near Altino, on the mainland. Before the 6th century, the Veneti lived there, before fleeing the barbarians and building new settlements on islands in the lagoon. Our boat followed the reed-bordered canals of fresh water that flow into the salt water of the lagoon. The boat was a bragozzo, a traditional fishing vessel. It was painted with an angel holding a scroll inscribed "Qui rerum naturam amat deum amat." Since the trip was dedicated to the lagoon flora and fauna, that was very appropriate. I drew this quickly while we were on shore at Mazzorbo.
