a dog ate my pen

As we were coming back from the island of Mazzorbo this evening in my friends' motorboat, their adorable little dog Artu' started chewing on something. It turns out to have been my fountain pen. Now this pen was not any ordinary drawing pen. I like drawing with old pump fountain pens because I can put india ink in them, even though there are dire warnings to never put india ink in a fountain pen. (I find modern cartridge fountain pens impossible, because the ink is not waterproof, and I don't like drafting pens and they always self-destruct on me). I bought this particular pen in November at a lovely store in London called Penfriend. It was a 1934 fountain pen, in their sale drawer for 37.50 pounds. And I loved using this pen. It had an outstanding point, which did, incidentally, survive the dog. So in the next few days I am going to have to figure out what to do about replacing it, since I won't get back to London for a few months yet.

I believe that you have written a haiku. Thank you for sharing my despair in this way.
