Venice seems to be the only city in Italy that celebrates San Martin. Kids go around banging on pots and pans, singing a song, and begging treats from shop keepers.
Pasticcerie bake enormous cookies in the shape of the saint, on horseback, who divided his cloak to clothe a beggar. We brought a San Martin cookie to owlfish in England last week. It survived the flight, and I drew it at her house. But she beat me and posted of photo of it on her Live Journal.
