I sometimes pass the time drawing on trains. Years ago, when I was a student at the High School of Music and Art in NY, we had homework assignments involving drawing people on the subway, so I lost all fear of drawing in public transport early in life. This past Saturday morning, we traveled to Vernio in the Val Bisenzio, Tuscany to visit friends. Two hours to Bologna on the Eurostar, then a local train through the mountains. I didn't actually draw the handsome, white-haired woman sitting opposite me, though I did dare to include a bit of her cable-knit sweater and scarf. This drawing is somewhat comparable to one I did last summer on a train between Moscow and St. Petersburg. (see July 21,2007 post).
