I had an appointment this morning to draw lace in the collection of the Palazzo Mocenigo. (watercolor added when I got home). My drawings are enlargements of tiny bits of these lace samples. This Venetian needle lace is beyond amazing. I think that until the advent of wafer-thin electronic circuits for computers, nothing any human being made was ever as complex and on such a tiny scale. As I worked on my drawings, I heard staff members chatting in another room, including someone telling her colleagues a recipe for making octopus salami from scratch. To serve for Pasquetta (the day after Easter). Really.
