Senju-kannon, the thousand-armed Kannon for Ignatius Widiapradja
Every once in a while I make a bread sculpture, but these are not intended for display. I insist that the people I give it to eat it. Yesterday, I went to a party for my friend Ignatius' birthday. In addition to being an exceptional painter and teacher, Ignatius owned Padma, his store that sold south Asian antiquities, craft objects, furniture, and textiles. I made bread for him in the form of a Bodhisattva, the thousand-armed Kannon. Above is a photo just before it went into the oven. The dimensions are 19 x 14 inches high. Below is the baked bread.
