It turns out that the iris growing in my garden was pretty plain. When I went to the farmers' market yesterday morning, I stopped to buy three stems of irises (enormous frilly black; white; and white lined with purple) to give friends who were hosting us for dinner. The vendor had a broken-off yellow and purple iris flower on the table. I asked if I could have it to draw. I placed it in a dish of water and made four drawings yesterday afternoon. It is still doing fine today.
